CHIP, active

N-Terminal 6His-tagged, recombinant, human CHIP, full length, expressed in E. coli.

Biological information

Background
CHIP (C-terminus of Hsc70-interacting protein) is a ubiquitin ligase enzyme that plays an important role in regulating protein quality control in cells. As a ubiquitin ligase, CHIP catalyzes the transfer of ubiquitin molecules to specific target proteins, marking them for degradation by the proteasome or for other cellular processes. CHIP is involved in several cellular processes, including protein folding, trafficking, and degradation, as well as DNA damage repair and apoptosis. It interacts with several chaperone proteins, including Hsc70 and Hsp90, and targets misfolded or damaged proteins for ubiquitination and degradation. The ubiquitination activity of CHIP is regulated by its interaction with several co-chaperones and adapter proteins, including BAG1, BAG2, and HspBP1. These proteins can modulate the substrate specificity and activity of CHIP, as well as its localization within the cell.
